The sunflowers she'd planted with Daddy were glowing β actually glowing β and from somewhere deep in the lavender patch came a tiny voice singing a song she almost recognised. She crouched down, pushed the stems apart, and found a door no bigger than her hand, carved into the garden wall. It was already open.β
Oliver's Secret Map
βOliver found the map folded inside a library book about shipwrecks β proper old paper, soft at the edges, with a coffee ring in one corner and a route drawn in red ink that didn't match any road he knew. Biscuit sniffed it once, sneezed, and wagged his tail like he already knew where it led. The first landmark was the oak tree behind the football pitch. Oliver grabbed his rucksack, clipped on Biscuit's lead, and they were out the door before Mum could say "jacket."β
Priya and the Singing River
βPriya heard the river before she saw it. Not the normal whooshing sound β this was a song, low and round and warm, like someone humming inside a blanket. She followed the sound through the tall grass, her red wellies squelching in the mud, until she reached the bank and saw something she'd never seen before: a small otter sitting on a rock, eyes closed, singing to a jam jar full of water. When it saw Priya, it stopped. "Oh good," it said. "You're here."β
