Getting started

How do I get started?
Sign up with your email — we’ll send a magic link, no password needed. Then spend five minutes building your child’s profile. Your first story will be ready that evening.
How long does setup take?
Five minutes, roughly. Creating your account takes 30 seconds. Adding a child profile — name, age, interests, pets, friends, favourite colour — takes another four minutes. Then you’re done.
Do I need a credit card to sign up?
No. The free plan is genuinely free — no card needed. The 7-day free trial of paid plans also requires no payment details. You only need a card when you choose to subscribe after your trial.

The stories

Are the stories actually different every night?
Yes. Every story is generated fresh, from scratch, for your specific child. We track the last 10 story themes to make sure nothing repeats. Your child will never hear the same story twice.
Is my child’s name actually in the story, or just in the title?
Your child’s name appears in the first sentence of every story. Not as a template slot — the story is written around them. Their interests drive the plot, their pets appear as characters.
What ages do the stories work for?
We support three age groups: toddler (2–4), early reader (5–7), and middle reader (8–11). The vocabulary, length, and complexity adjust automatically. We’ll re-check the age group as your child grows.
What if I don’t like a story?
You can flag any story from inside the app. We’ll use that feedback to improve future stories. If a story fails our safety check during generation, we automatically regenerate it (up to three attempts).
When does the story arrive?
Stories are generated overnight and delivered about an hour before your child’s bedtime. You’ll get a notification when it’s ready.
Can siblings appear in each other’s stories?
Yes. On Plus or Family plans, siblings are automatically aware of each other and can appear as supporting characters in the primary child’s story.

Pricing and billing

What’s included in the free plan?
1 child profile, a new text story every day, and access to the last 7 days of stories. No illustrations, audio, or full library.
What’s the difference between Starter, Plus, and Family?
Starter (£9.99/mo) covers 1 child with 5 seeds per month. Plus (£15.99/mo) covers up to 3 children with 12 seeds per month. Family (£22.99/mo) covers up to 5 children with 20 seeds per month. All paid plans include daily illustrated stories, audio narration, and the full story library.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No contracts, no cancellation fees. You keep access until the end of your billing period, then move to the free tier.
Do you offer annual billing?
Not yet, but we plan to. Sign up to our newsletter to hear when it’s available.

Privacy and safety

Is Moss & Tale safe for children?
Every story is passed through a safety filter before it’s shown. We check for age-inappropriate content, violence, and other triggers. Stories that don’t pass are automatically regenerated.
How do you handle children’s data?
We comply with the UK Children’s Code (AADC). We don’t advertise to children, don’t share their data with third parties for marketing, and don’t use their data for anything other than generating their stories. Parents can export or delete all data at any time.
How is the daily journal used?
When you write a note in the daily journal — for example, “Sophia started her new school today” or “Luca lost his first tooth” — that note is passed to our AI story generator as personalisation context for tonight’s story. We translate the real event into the story world: we don’t quote your note verbatim, but use it as the emotional foundation for the story. Your mood selection and notes are stored against your child’s profile and retained as part of their story history. We never share this data with third parties or use it for advertising. You can delete it at any time via account settings.
Who can see my child’s stories?
Only you. Stories are private to your family account. We don’t share, sell, or publicly display story content.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. From settings, you can delete your account and all associated data at any time. It’s permanent and immediate.
